Draconic Tales - Chapter 3I opened my eyes to find myself lying down somewhere. I couldn't move. I closed my eyes due to a total lack of energy. My head spun as images flashed across my eyes. None of which I could decipher. I felt the blackness again, I welcomed it.
I woke again, this time I could feel. I would cringe with pain, only I still couldn't move. It felt like all the muscles in my body cramped up and I couldn't do anything to stretch them. My hearing was muffled and distorted. I heard someone's voice, it might be a girl's but I can't tell. I opened my eyes and the world spun rapidly. I quickly shut my eyes and the darkness took over again.
I returned to consciousness at the sound of footsteps and crunching. The sounds got louder and closer. They were almost on top of me, or at least close. My foggy mind will not cooperate at the moment. I attempted to open my eyes again and quickly shut them, I was still dizzy. I began to hear the voice again and this time it wasn't alone. From what I could hear, the
Draconic Tales - Chapter 4School that day went smoothly, for the most part. First period was World History and I could care less what the teacher had to say. I sat in the back of the classroom usually listening to every possible thing everyone could come up with to change the topic for a while, so today I slept.
I woke when the bell rang and I gathered my belongings. I walked across the hall to my next class, English. English class was boring as usual. The new topic for the day was, hyperboles, like we haven't learned this before. I was anxious to leave for third period due to how absolutely draining English is. The bell rang, thank the lord. I rushed out of the classroom never wanting to return.
I went to my locker to deposit unnecessary supplies. I then walked casually into class. I sat in my seat and waited quietly for the teacher to announce the project that would be due by the end of today. Third period is Science, so it might be interesting.
All day I was being treated with an unusual amount of respect. P
Draconic Tales - Chapter 5I never would have thought, in my wildest dreams that I would be here today, looking at what I am currently.
I stared into the depths of the dragon's eyes. I could detect a strong air of urgency around him. I could tell he was masculine in gender, but I'm not quite sure how. It's like I already knew somehow. Anyway, I was so shocked by the appearance of the massive creature. I began to sweat profusely in front of the massive beast. The dragon snorted suddenly. I was so stumbled backwards in fear, which was clearly written all over my face. I tripped over a log that must have fallen recently, and I scrambled up and began to run. I made it approximately five feet before I tripped and fell again. I got back up again and ran, but when I made it to the tree line, I couldn't move. I panicked struggled with all my might, but nothing worked, I couldn't move an inch. I gave up soon knowing that I wasn't going to be able to change my fate. I felt myself being pulled backwards but I could do noth
Draconic Tales - Chapter 1"Kate Freno is that really you?"
"Real as we'll ever get dude," Freno said slightly proud. He stepped forward and stuck his hand out to me. I grabbed it and Freno yanked me up onto my feet. "I see that you still have that claw."
"Never stopped wearing it actually, except for when I go to bed," I knew that if I wore the 'claw' to bed it would end up piercing skin. Also, I never did figure out what it is exactly, that is around my neck, but I always wear it anyway. "So, what you guys been up to lately?" I asked noticing their parents behind them.
"Are you gonna let us in first Jake," Kate decided to speak up for the first time.
I just smiled and stepped out the way. "Are you all here on vacation or what? This is kind of unexpected," I asked as they all walked inside. "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Haynor, hello Mr. and Mrs. Amanar," I surprised myself when I remembered their last names.
The adults all replied with the normal greeting. Then Mr. Amanar, Freno's dad, asked, "Where's your p
Draconic Tales - Chapter 2"So, what happened?" Freno asked after me and Kate snuck upstairs. He was playing Modern Warfare 3 on my Xbox 360 on the map, Dome. We decided to let him finish the current game before we shared. He turned a corner in the old, battered office building and shot a guy in the head with his sniper. I will never be talented enough to be able to use a sniper rifle at close range. As it turns out, that was the last kill of the team deathmatch game and the scene was replayed from a different angle. When the game reverted to the lobby, he backed out and turned to us. "Well ?"
"Mind if I join for a game?"
"Me too," we both looked at Kate like she had lost her mind. "What, can't a girl try something different?"
"Yeah, I just didn't expect that the 'something different' would be a war game," I told her. "Do you want us to teach you how to play?"
"I think I know how. I've seen Freno play these games all the time."
"Geez, I didn't know she paid that much attention to me while I play," Freno whi
Poetic PsychosisIn thirty seconds, the next shell would fall. Every night was the same, but every night Lorenzo experienced it as if it were the first time. His throat felt swollen; breathing was hard. He glanced around at the others; young men like him who had been shipped out in the name of honour and freedom. There was no honour in this, no freedom. Only death behind your eyelids, and a fear so gutting, that it carved out your innards and left you a hollow husk. Lorenzo tried to breathe, tried to assure himself that he was still whole, still made of flesh. They had lied when they told him he was ready.
Matteo ran towards him, arms out, rifle swinging uselessly at his side. He shouted for him to run, but Lorenzo remained motionless, unable to move as his friend’s warning was lost in the constant blare of gunfire. None of them were ready.
“The cycle is repeating. It is not safe.” The voice was soft and weak, yet it carried over the gunfire and battle cries without impediment.
